Sol kadhi

Solkadhi is a drink for Konkan region of Maharashtra. This drink is refreshing and cooling for the system. I tasted it first my kaku's house in US. She is from Goa and is an amazing cook. I loved the drink so much that she makes it for me whenever we visit their place. I believe that food tastes better when it is prepared by a loved one..



Solkadhi Preparation

  • Grated coconut--2 cups (fresh or frozen)
  • Kokum--4-5 pieces (in water for 10-15 minutes)
  • Green chillies--2-3 crushed
  • Garlic--1 (crushed)
  • Jeera powder--1/4 teaspoon


Take the grated coconut and blend it in a mixer with 1 cup of water.Take it in a sieve and squeeze out coconut milk from it. Repeat the process with 1 cup of water and blend it.

In the coconut milk add green chillies, jeera powder and garlic.Squeeze the kokums and add kokum water to the mixture.Keep checking the taste for sourness and mix it well. Season with salt. Serve it chilled and enjoy!

Note- Dont add too much water when squeezing out coconut milk as it tends to taste bland.The coconut milk should be thick and creamy.
